Why Does Children's Medicine Taste So Bad?

Opinion Post - Last year, I contacted Tylenol, on Facebook to request them to offer a unflavored children's medicine alternative. My child had a normal cold and spiked a fever. Every time that I tried to give my child "Children's medicine" such as Cherry, Grape or Bubblegum flavor; my child was more sick from taking the medicine, than the fever itself. It's not Tylenol's fault; all children's medicines offer this terrible tasting flavors. My child was not allergic to the medicine and nor was the medicine faulty in any way. It was just the taste. No juice, ice cream, milk, or shake could blend well with the flavor. I even tried freezing it into ice cubes; just to get my daughter to take the medicine.

Tylenol did apologize that my child was getting sick from the flavor. They were sweet; but still there is no "unflavored" medicine available for children. I really wish there was an unflavored medicine; especially when your child is spiking a 102. or higher fever. Life would be so much easier if the medicine was bland and neutral in flavor.
